Change Your Mind....Then Your Behavior!

If you knew that you could do something that would change
your way of thinking and your behavior, would you do it?
If you believed it would help you break the bondage of
sinful habits would you consider it?
If you knew it was free for the taking and available 24/7,
would you take it?
If you were offered help to assure success,
would you accept it?

There are many reasons I have decided to pursue memorizing
large amounts of scripture;  it has been the most wonderful use of my
mental energy imaginable: (in short)
1.  Renews my mind.
2.  Convicts of sin.
3.  Defeats Satan.
4.  Quiets ocd.
5.  Scripture fills me.
6.  Witnessing
7.  Conserves time.
8.  Encourages believers.
9.  Uses brain.
10. Teaching
11. Meditation
12. Empowers walk.
13. Models priorities.

(explanation)
1.  God told me not to be like the world, but to be changed by
putting the powerful words in my mind.  (Rom. 12:2)
2.   The Holy Spirit Who lives inside me uses scripture to convict of sin.
3.   It defeats Satan, the father of lies, when he tries to tempt me.
Jesus quoted scripture when He was tempted. Matt. 4:4
4.  It helps my ocd(obsessive compulsive disorder)--One day
I began worrying about something very insignificant, but I
couldn't get it out of my head.
That's ocd at it's best!  I was driving and began quoting the book of
Philippians.  When I arrived at my destination, I was not only
done quoting the book, I had no idea what I was worried about!
5.  Memorizing a chapter takes a lot of time; the repetition of words and
     phrases becomes part of me.
6.  Witnessing is easier; I don't need to have my Bible.
7.  I know where to tell my friends to look when they have a problem.
8.  Scripture videos bless and encourage other people; last week
I showed one to an older friend.  She sat very still, nodding her
head as she took it all in.  That may have been the only Bible she
     read that day.
9.  As a mother I do many brainless activities--This is a great use of the
     brain God gave me!
10. It helps me when I teach a Bible Study to have the verses
on my lips instead of having to stop and find them.
11.  I can meditate on God's word regardless of where I am. Phil. 4:8
12.  I am weak.  Having those powerful words flow through me
empowers me to live the life God has for me.  II Cor. 12:9, 10
13.  It  makes me a better parent, modeling to my children what
        is important to me.

Weeding Your Garden

Finally decided to pull the ugly weeds in my yard....one weed that was growing was about 3 feet tall!  It was right in front of the house in plain sight behind our prickly red bushes which hide the railing that needs replacing.  Weeds were growing in between the azaleas, the rhododendrons, around the purple heart, under the rosebush, etc.  Pulling the weeds made the flowers stand out more.  Pulling the weeds gave more room for the pretty flowers to grow.  Pulling the weeds made my yard look great!
I have weeds in my life.  They are ugly; they take up space; they prevent me from growing.  My worry weed makes me tired.  When I trust God I pull it out and my energy returns!  My self pity weed makes me think about myself too much.  When I look around at people who can't walk, or even feed themselves, God shows me how blessed I am and really wouldn't want their problems anyway.  My anxiety weed makes me think I have control of my life--ha!  God not only created me, He has orchestrated everything in my life just the way He wanted; He is in complete control and nothing surprises Him.   My selfish weed makes me angry when people ask too much of me.  God gave His son for me, can't I help those around me?
I will continue to pull out the weeds God shows me.  I want  Him to water, fertilize,  and shine His light in my life so it can be a beautiful flower.
